AAPCHO Statement on One Big Beautiful Bill (H.R. 1)
WASHINGTON—The Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organizations (AAPCHO) today released the following statement ahead of the House vote on H.R. 1, the One Big Beautiful Bill, passed out of the Senate yesterday.
Adam Carbullido, AAPCHO’s director of policy and advocacy, said:
“The “One Big Beautiful Bill” will devastate health care for millions of individuals across our country, and put more than 6 million Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders—nearly a quarter of our communities—who rely on Medicaid, CHIP, and the ACA Marketplaces at risk of losing their health insurance. It’s estimated that 1.1 million Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders will lose health coverage directly attributable to the catastrophic cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, and the ACA and new eligibility restrictions on lawful immigrants who played by the rules to come to our country.
“This bill severely harms community health centers that provide critical health services to nearly 32 million people each year, including 1.5 million low-income Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders. The bill jeopardizes care for 16 million health center patients on Medicaid and will directly lead to an additional $7 billion per year in uncompensated care costs at community health centers directly related to the increase in uninsured Americans. This will lead health centers to scale back health care services, lay off doctors and nurses, and for some, close their doors.
“We strongly urge the House to reject the Senate bill, VOTE NO on H.R. 1, and put forward a bill that will actually improve health care for those who need it most.”
