AAPCHO Statement Regarding the Removal of Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices’ Members
WASHINGTON—The Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organizations (AAPCHO) released the following statement regarding the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ removal of all 17 members of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP).
Jeffrey B. Caballero, MPH, executive director of AAPCHO, said:
“The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices has long served as an independent, nonpartisan scientifically-driven body entrusted to ensure access to safe and effective vaccines and develop critical vaccine guidelines to protect our nation’s health. ACIP’s evidence-based recommendations have been essential to reducing vaccine-preventable disease for millions of Americans, including countless Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders. Removing all 17 ACIP members jeopardizes trust in our public health institutions and undermines vaccine policy essential to our nation’s health. AAPCHO strongly urges HHS to reverse course.”
