On Thursday, October 24, 2024 AAPCHO and the National Center for Equitable Care for Elders hosted a webinar that explored approaches for fostering trust and connection with older Asian American (AA) and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander (NH/PI) health center patients to improve their mental health outcomes.
In this session, guest speakers Lee-Ann Noelani Heely from Hawaii Island Community Health Center, Gerard Manuel from Asian Americans for Community Involvement, and Eunice Chun from Korean American Community Services shared outreach and engagement strategies for building connection and belonging among their AA and NH/PI elder patient populations.

- Describe cultural and structural factors that impact access to mental health services for older AA and NH/PI patients;
- Explain the relationship between culturally-responsive care and overall health outcomes for AA and NH/PI elders; and
- Utilize shared strategies to establish trust and rapport to improve patient-centered communication.
