AAPCHO and the Pacific Islander Center of Primary Care Excellence (PI-CoPCE) developed the COVID-19 & Other Infectious Diseases Health Equity Response Network (CHERN) to proactively engage, inform, and train the healthcare workforce to prevent and control the spread of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases

PROJECT GOALS

The COVID-19 & Other Infectious Diseases Health Equity Response Network aims to achieve the following long-term outcomes: 

  • Fewer healthcare-associated infections among AA and NH/PI patients and healthcare workers
  • Fewer community-acquired infections across public and private settings in underserved AA and NH/PI communities
  • Improved clinical outcomes among AA and NH/PI patients with or who are at increased risk for emerging infectious diseases.
Primary Functions of the Network Response Network Activities
  • Primary care strategic planning
  • Sharing of resources and best practices among interdisciplinary providers
  • Increasing awareness and understanding of culturally and linguistically appropriate COVID-19 testing and treatment strategies
  • Physician and nurse consultation for appropriate screening, evaluation, diagnosis, management, and treatment of COVID-19 patients and persons with suspected SARS-CoV-2 infection
  • Address questions on any COVID-19 related topic raised by health practitioners
