DESCRIPTION:Join the Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organizations (AAPCHO) to learn about the two pandemics impacting Asian and Asian American (A/AA) community members: anti-Asian racism and COVID-19. This learning collaborative will explore diverse perspectives of the two pandemics and highlight innovative care models for A/AA-serving community health centers.\n\nThe learning collaborative consists of four 90-minute sessions\, held every Tuesday from June 8 through June 29 with the following topics. \n\nSession 1 (June 8): Intersecting Identities of A/AAs\, Native Hawaiians (NHs)*\, and Pacific Islanders (PIs)*\nSession 2 (June 15): Understanding A/AA Community Needs Using a Social Determinants of Health Lens\nSession 3 (June 22): Applying Trauma-Informed Care for A/AA During COVID-19\nSession 4 (June 29): Combatting Two Pandemics with Community Rooted Interventions\n\n\n  \nAfter this learning collaborative\, participants will be able to:\n\n\nBetter understand the diversity of A/AAs\, as well as NHs and PIs*\nExplore social drivers of health that impact A/AA communities\nApply trauma-informed care approaches in serving A/AAs \nDiscuss the two pandemics affecting A/AAs: anti-Asian racism and COVID-19\n\n*This learning collaborative will focus primarily on Asian/Asian American communities that have been disproportionately targeted with violence during the pandemic. AAPCHO recognizes the impact of racism through systemic discrimination that has impacted NHs and PIs before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Policies that aggregate A/AA\, NH\, and PI population data and limit the eligibility for particular A/AA\, NH\, and PI groups/subgroups to access safety net programs are just two examples that will be further addressed in a future LC. DESCRIPTION:AAPCHO and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)’s We Can Do This campaign recognizes the importance of COVID-19 vaccine booster shots in further protecting Asian American (AA)\, Native Hawaiian\, and Pacific Islander (NH/PI) communities. In a joint webinar from AAPCHO and We Can Do This\, two experts will shed light on and answer the community’s questions about booster eligibility\, safety\, accessibility\, and effectiveness against COVID-19 variants.  \nLearning Objectives: \nAfter this webinar\, participants will be able to: \n\nUnderstand the effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccine boosters; \nRecognize how AA and NH/PI communities can access COVID-19 vaccine boosters; and\nIncrease their ability to encourage patients\, community members\, and families to reach full vaccination protection.\n\nSpeakers: \n\ \nAdelaida M. Rosario\, Ph.D. \nLieutenant Office of the Surgeon General\nU.S. Department of Health & Human Services \nDr. Adelaida M. Rosario studies the connections between behaviors and social and cultural determinants and how these factors affect health disparities for different minority communities. She has worked with Hispanic and Pacific Islander populations to study how these factors relate to early childhood development\, mental health\, risk behaviors\, HIV/AIDS prevention\, and substance abuse. Dr. Rosario is involved in numerous efforts and collaborations to increase diversity in the biomedical and federal workforce. Dr. Rosario earned her Ph.D. in Social Welfare from Florida International University (FIU)\, M.A. in Pacific Micronesian Studies from the University of Guam\, and a B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Religious Studies from FIU. \n \nChia Wang\, MD \nInfectious Diseases Specialist\nVirginia Mason Franciscan Health\nAAPCHO COVID-19 and Other Infectious Disease Health Equity Response Network \nDr. Wang is an Infectious Diseases Specialist at International Community Health Services and Virginia Mason Medical Center. Additionally\, Dr. Wang is a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Washington. She divides her time between doing inpatient Infectious Diseases consult and a busy outpatient practice.
