WASHINGTON—The Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organizations (AAPCHO) released the following statement celebrating the election of new officers of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) for the 119th Congress and thanking outgoing Chair, Rep. Judy Chu (CA-28) for her years of leadership in Congress on behalf of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders.

CAPAC members selected Reps. Grace Meng (NY-06) as Chair, Mark Takano (CA-39) as First Vice Chair, Jill Tokuda (HI-02) as Second Vice Chair, Ami Bera (CA-06) as Whip, and Rep.-elect Suhas Subramanyam (VA-10) as Freshman Representative.

AAPCHO Executive Director, Jeffrey B. Caballero:

“AAPCHO thanks Rep. Judy Chu for being a tireless champion for Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders during her tenure as CAPAC Chair. Rep. Chu’s leadership at CAPAC has ensured that our communities are stronger, more visible and resilient, and healthier because of the perspectives and steadfast advocacy with Congressional Leadership, members in both the House and Senate, and executive branch officials in the Obama, Trump, and Biden administrations. We are especially proud of our work together to put forward the first concurrent bicameral introduction of the Health Equity and Accountability Act, which CAPAC led in this Congress. We look forward to her continued partnership as CAPAC Chair Emerita.”

AAPCHO Director of Policy and Advocacy, Adam P. Carbullido:

“AAPCHO congratulates Reps. Grace Meng, Mark Takano, Jill Tokuda, Ami Bera, and Rep.-elect Suhas Subramanyan on their selection to lead CAPAC in the 119th Congress. We look forward to working closely with incoming Chair Meng on the host of challenges affecting Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders, especially addressing access to affordable and culturally responsive health care, threats to our immigration system that cause fear and confusion within our communities, and continued rises in Anti-Asian hate and Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander discrimination. More than ever, our communities need strong voices in Congress to build on the successes CAPAC has made over the last several years. We are confident Chair Meng and the incoming CAPAC officers will continue to ensure our communities’ needs are prioritized by Congress and the administration.”

AAPCHO Board Vice President and Charles B. Wang Community Health Center CEO (New York), Kaushal Challa:

“Charles B. Wang Community Health Center congratulates Rep. Meng on her selection as CAPAC Chair for the 119th Congress. Rep. Meng has been a close partner to improving health care for her constituents, many of whom receive care at our health center. We look forward to her leadership as CAPAC chair and continuing to be a strong voice for Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders across the nation.”
