WASHINGTON – The Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organizations (AAPCHO), a national organization of health centers serving Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders, today released the following statement in response to the shooting that occurred at former President Trump’s event on July 13:
This weekend, Americans across the country were shocked and saddened by the tragic shooting at the rally of former President Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania. AAPCHO and its members strongly condemn all forms of political violence, and we share our deepest condolences with the families of the spectator who was killed and those wounded.
While we encourage participation, and even difference of opinion, as part of the political process, we can all agree as Americans that violence has no place in our communities. Many members of the Asian American and Pacific Islander community immigrated to the United States to escape war, conflict and political oppression; we are too familiar with the destructive impact of these forces on democracy. Our community must now work together to overcome divisive rhetoric and build a peaceful country united against the threat of violence.
