WASHINGTON—The Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organizations (AAPCHO) is pleased to announce it has been named a recipient of a new five-year cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as part of the Strengthening Public Health Systems and Services through National Partnerships to Improve and Protect the Nation’s Health or National Partners Cooperative Agreement (CoAg) program. AAPCHO’s awarded proposed initiatives are focused on providing capacity-building assistance to support federally qualified community health centers and other organizations providing services to Asian American (AA), Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander (NH/PI), and other underserved communities.

“We are honored to work alongside partners to continue to increase access to culturally responsive capacity-building assistance and support for community health centers and other organizations providing services to AA, NH/PI, and other underserved communities. Through our new role, we look forward to working in partnership with CDC to build our collective capacity to effectively address social drivers of health and reduce health disparities, and support our work and shared commitment toward health equity,” said Jen Lee, deputy director of AAPCHO.

The CoAg program is the largest umbrella funding mechanism at CDC and represents a significant effort to build capacity across the U.S. public health system. This award is part of a $62M investment aimed at helping public health organizations across the United States strengthen their workforce and infrastructure.

“Community health centers and other organizations providing care and services to AA, NH/PI, and other underserved communities face ongoing challenges in ensuring that those they serve have better access to affordable, high quality, and culturally and linguistically responsive health care,” said Jeffrey B. Caballero, executive director of AAPCHO. “This investment will help address these challenges, assist in improving our public health system, and build healthier communities overall.”
